Have I Become A Prepper?
I think I may be a bit of a prepper but then again I may just be getting prepared? What is the difference?
According to Urban Dictionary a prepper is – A person actively preparing or being prepared for situations that may affect the stability of home, life, or financial situation
I chose that definition as the ones on dictionary sites I would normally use seem to be a bit more extreme.
Also, my preparing is only half the story, the other half is that I buy a lot of reduced fresh items and store them for later. Helping to reduce food waste in the supermarket whilst stocking up my home for less.
Therefore, I would not say I am a prepper as such but I am actively building up some items now in preparation for when the prices increase or there is less choice on the shelves of the supermarkets. I am definitely preparing, I just don’t think I am prepping.
The acquiring of my mother’s food processor I think started things off. Then when I realised that I really couldn’t keep buying items and freezing them, I got myself a dehydrator.
Many youtube videos later, I now have a small store of dehydrated goods, which I will build on as I learn more. Certainly, my first attempt at home made soup mix to put in a mug was pretty successful. It also makes things so easy when putting a meal in the slow cooker, just a couple of scoops of various dried ingredients and I can walk away.
As most of the information regarding these kind of activities seems to be from homesteaders in the USA, I thought I would start showing you how I am getting on trying to do something similar in Scotland. The first video will be out later today and hopefully I will be able to post more very soon after.
Please do let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
