Trip To The Supermarket Has Been Delayed
It was my intention today to go to the supermarket. Not to get shopping for the house but to make a donation from the channel to the local foodbank.
I had checked the foodbank website and made a note of the items they were requesting. I planned a quick in and out with a couple of photographs.
I was sitting in the car waiting for the windscreen to defrost. Checking my phone to make sure I had the list on there. As I sat in the cold, waiting for the ice to gradually disappear from my windscreen, I looked at the clock on the dashboard, 11.04am.
Gradually it dawned on me, remembering the comment on the channel about what day it actually was. This was the day before Hogmanay. The day so many people would be doing their grocery shopping for the upcoming celebrations. What was I thinking?
Whilst I enjoy shopping in the supermarket, and love the fact that I can make donations to the foodbank on behalf of the channel, I usually go shopping at 6am.
A busy supermarket is not my idea of fun, in fact it is my idea of purgatory. No clear aisles to push the trolley, children running about, people having catch up conversations in the middle of the canned goods. There is nothing enjoyable about that.
A decision was made, I switched off the engine and went back to the house. I absolutely was not going to be putting myself in that situation when I was in the middle of a relaxing holiday break.
When I came back in, Kathleen looked at me confused. When I told her my thoughts and said I would go instead tomorrow morning, she looked at me like I was mad. Telling me in no uncertain terms that there is no earthly reason for me to be driving in minus temperatures at that time of the morning. She has a good point. Although, looking at the weather forecast, tomorrow is the day with the highest temperatures, staying in positive numbers the whole day.
The donation shopping will now be postponed until either tomorrow morning, depending on the weather or Sunday the 4th when the world should be back to relative normality although will probably be icy.
I am now back in the house, manning the washing machine and planning dinner. Another restful day it is.
