New Budgeting Methods Look Possible

There are going to be a lot of changes in my life in the next few months.  I personally think that 2026 is going to be an exciting year with quite a few changes.

As I said in my video, there are a lot of changes going on right now and once they have been completed, things will be different.

I at last have received the keys to my mother’s house which the council demanded I sell to pay care home fees.  Sadly, the people living in it despite having been told in January that they had to leave, decided to stay in the property.  I found out in March that they were going to stay until they were taken to court to be forcibly evicted or the local authority housed them.

Solicitors were involved and court dates set.  Thankfully they moved into a local authority property 2 days before the court hearing.

When I went into the house having obtained the keys, it was a mess and needed completely redecorated.  I started putting down protection and put some filler in a couple of holes in the plaster.  However I have now decided that this was not sustainable for me to continue.  So I have booked the Home Report and will be selling the property asap.

I will then have to deal with the council and the care home to hand over the money so that my mother’s account is left with whatever the limit is that the government says she can keep.

Once all that is done, I will at last be able to stop. 

No more taking care of things, no more dealing with things for other people.  I can focus on my immediate family and try to get our life in some semblance of order before I retire.

I am hopeful that all the above will be done and dusted by the start of the New Year and then I can start to do things a bit differently.

Budgeting will be one of the first things that I look to deal with.  There will be changes to outgoings which should make a big difference to what we can save.  Once we have that sorted then it will be time to look at making the house as comfortable as possible and future proof it as much as possible.

Thankfully I have noticed from previous budgeting experiments, it seems if I manage to start cutting costs or putting money aside, it leads to more. So anything I can do in the next few months will hopefully lead to better money management in the New Year.

All in all, I think 2026 is going to be an interesting year.
