Cost Of Living Crisis

News Means More Budgeting

So here I am stuck in the house sitting quietly and trying not to do too much.

It does not however stop me from getting irked at the news that I am able to watch much of the day.

The cost of living crisis which seemed to have disappeared from the daily news here in the UK is now back with a vengeance.  Not that the media is saying such a thing of course.

Yesterday we were graced with the Autumn Statement from the Chancellor who announced that we would be paying less national insurance as from January next year.  Isn’t that fabulous, we are paying a whole 2% less from our wages.

Sadly the energy price cap will be rising 5% at the same time.

Good news however for those on minimum wage which will be rising by about £1 per hour.  Also for those in receipt of benefits and pensions which will also be rising quite a bit.

However, if you are on benefits and are not working you could be forced to take part in a work placement or risk losing your payments.

With attention seeming to be directed at those who receive disability benefits and how they could work from home, this is going to be a difficult time for many.

Personally, I think there would be a better return on investment if they put more staff on the tax avoidance department than the benefits department.

All in all, nothing has really changed for the ordinary working person.

The way I see it, I need to budget more, stretch every penny and keep living frugally.
