First Full Crochet Blanket Completed
It’s quite funny how some hobbies start. With me crocheting was so I could make my own dishcloths from the cotton yarn. I was looking to be eco friendly and save money.
At the time I was travelling to London on the train 4-5 times a year. This was a great way to unwind from work on the way to spending time with Patrick. Once I mastered the dishcloths, I progressed to blankets and shawls. As long it was a straight line, I was all good.
During this time, I purchased rather a lot of yarn of various kinds and was also given some yarn from friends and family. This has resulted in a rather large bag of mismatched yarn which has languished in my cupboard for a couple of years now.
Recently I have taken to sitting quietly in the evenings either watching tv or listening to the radio. Eventually I realised that I could still be constructive whilst having a restful evening.
Thus, the blanket idea took shape. The initial thought when I pulled out the bag of yarn was to find whatever I could that was approximately the same thickness, so it would feel ok as a blanket.
Once the blanket was started, I decided that this was going to be a blanket that was designed specifically for my requirements. This meant that I wanted it to come up to my chin whilst being tucked under my feet. This would mean I would have a bit of extra warmth whenever it was needed. Although being 5’9 meant that this was going to be quite a long blanket.
I used various yarns and just kept crocheting until the yarn ran out. Thus, the blanket grew with the colours neither uniform nor coordinated. The bag of yarn however has shrunk slightly. When I say slightly, I mean very slightly. I have now started another blanket to try and use more yarn. This second blanket will be donated to The Food Train Knitathon as mentioned in the linked video.
Thank you so much to those who have donated, I will pass this over to The Food Train, as soon as I can.
Here’s to more blankets and decluttering, a great combination.
