Typical Monthly Food Shopping Lists
I thought it might be useful to put together what I would call a typical shopping list for the month. I have put two shopping lists in the downloads section. Together they make what would be a typical shopping list for us on a monthly basis.
When it was asked in the comments on one of the videos how I managed to keep grocery costs down I thought it would be helpful to have a basic starter shopping list. It seems however that people seem to think I would be buying the same thing every week.
That list that I posted on youtube is to start off with items that will give you enough to freeze some meals and have the basics.
I am lucky that I have been batch cooking for a while so there is always a variety of meals in the freezer. To be honest, I think I would really struggle with not having a back up of freezer options.
The two lists that I have posted here come to a total of £96.13 taking the items at today’s prices in Asda. I have tried to put the regular price if something was on rollback so it could actually be a bit cheaper for some items.
I have done a rough calculation of what meals I would get from these groceries. It works out at approximately 48 portions for lunch/dinner for the fresh food. Then adding on the frozen gives you another 8 meals.
There is also enough there for breakfasts so these groceries alone would almost get myself and Kathleen through the month. Add to that the items we already have in the house and it is looking good.
There are obviously some items that would not be bought every month, such as the large pack of toilet rolls. Next month that money could be used for laundry liquid or something similar.
As we get to the next month, there will be things that are left over. Some meals in the freezer, cooking oil, porridge oats, rice and pasta. This allows us to either spend less or build up more variety going forward.
Happy budgeting!
