I Have Reached My Limit On Spaces On My Shelves

I just thought I would do a follow up to the video I made on this subject.

As you may or may not know, I like to be prepared for lots of eventualities and would happily call myself a bit of a prepper. This means I do not like to have spaces on my shelves.  I also like to be able to keep costs down within the household.

A few years ago, when I first got into the prepping, I bought so much stuff and stored it that I am only now getting it down to a manageable level.  By which I mean a level where I do not have shelves of food in my bedroom and the hall cupboard in addition to a full kitchen.

It came to my attention recently that I am starting to feel a bit antsy about the level of stores I now have in the house.  Cupboards in the kitchen are starting to have spaces and that is something I do not like to have.

This means it is now time for me to start thinking about refilling the shelves. Rather than a throw everything at them kind of way.

The first thing is to look at what is still on the shelves from a few years ago.  As in what did I buy that I haven’t used at all or don’t use regularly.  These items need to stay off my new list no matter how sensible I think they “might be”.

As I am sure you will all agree, the cost of living has increased considerably over the last few years and there is absolutely no point in buying something that I will only use in a dire emergency.

That leads me to what am I looking to refresh or stock up on that I have been using regularly.

Initially when I wrote the above line, I was thinking about food however it is absolutely not only food.  I know for a fact that I need to refresh the cold and flu remedies in time for this winter.  We have enough at the moment for us to have a couple of colds but if one of us gets the proper flu then we will be out of capsules.

Here in the UK you can only buy a limited amount of items containing paracetamol and/or ibuprofen in a supermarket shop. Now I start adding them to every shop at the tail end of the Summer.

I also will be looking at batteries, screen wash, de icer and other such things. Making sure that we have a baseline and everything is updated and working.  No point in buying a load of batteries for a torch that doesn’t work.

As for the food part of the list, that starts by looking at where the gaps are in the shelves or if not gaps, where the numbers have reduced. I normally had 12 cans of tuna on the shelves, then my daughter made some tuna pasta salad.  We only had 3 tins on the shelf and that it seems was when I started getting antsy.

Now I am off to write my lists. I cannot just write a shopping list it seems. I need a list of what should be in the cupboard at all times taped to the inside of the cupboard.  Then I can make a list of what is required to get the cupboard to this level.

Those requirements will be put into an online shop so there are no delays, no deviations and no forgetting.

I shall put both lists on the site as downloadable once they are done.

Now as it is almost 1.30am – I know, I was sleeping, had been for over 2 hours. Then i woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep thinking about finishing this post off.  Now it is finished I am going back to bed.

Catch you later.
